Neblux Knowledge Graph
Bioinformatics
Bioinformatics uses computational methods and databases to collect, organize and analyze biological information, such as nucleotide sequences, protein sequences and their annotations.
Overview
BLAST searches for local similarity between a query sequence and sequences in a database and reports statistical significance. Similarity can support evolutionary inference, but low-complexity regions can yield misleading matches. In RNA-seq, methods such as DESeq2 instead model read counts to test for differential expression, including multiple-testing adjustment.
Why it matters
Computational genomic studies can identify variants associated with disease and help select regions for further investigation. An associated marker may accompany the causal variant rather than cause disease itself, so the result alone does not establish a disease mechanism or an effective treatment.
